Month 1: September

Well, the adventure has already begun. I finally flew to Munich and moved into the Studentenstadt. I cannot believe that I am finally here! I had mixed feelings about starting my program. I am the only person from W&J on the program, but that may be a blessing in disguise. As the month started, I was happy to meet the other students, but overwhelmed in class. I had a hard time keeping up, understanding what they meant by “strong” versus “weak” verbs, and the grammatical structures. It felt like there was never enough time in the day to complete all the assignments that I had to do. Luckily, the program director, Ralf, was supportive and comforting. He reassured me that he had a previous student that shared similar struggles as me. She had strong language skills, but had no idea of the exact grammatical structures. He encouraged me to keep moving forward with the program and to do my best. During the third week, the program tried to spice things up and took us on the trip to Buchenberg. It is a small town in what seems like the middle-of-nowhere, because it really was in the middle-of-nowhere. The fields of green and the vast forest area were apparently the perfect place for German Buddhist meditation center. I was confused myself, but you have to just go with it. The surrounding area was beautiful, but the rain seemed to put a damper on things. The work did not seem to slow due to the rain. The trip was interesting, but I was missing my own room and solitude. Soon the pre-semester was coming to a close, but things seemed to get more complicated. I became more anxious about the final exams, I found out my boyfriend Jacobo was in an accident, and I was somehow summoned to jury duty. In this odd tail spin of bizarre events, I was completely overwhelmed. I just had to cross my fingers and hope for the best when walking into my exams. That is what’s going on for September. Below I have some pictures of my room and Buchenberg. Enjoy
